Department of Dermatology Venerology at West China Hospital, Sichuan University is a comprehensive dermatological center with over 60 years of experience. Founded in the early 1950s, it stands as the benchmark for diagnosing and treating complex skin diseases across western China, recognized by the National Health Commission as a State Clinical Key Specialty under construction.

The department boasts an elite team of 33 medical professionals including seven senior experts, seven professors, and seven associate professors. It serves as the deputy chr organization in both Chinese Dermatology Venerology Society of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and has numerous leaders occupying vice-chrman positions, standing committee members, and other important roles in various national societies.

The Department offers six specialized subfields such as medical cosmetology, skin-associated immune diseases, fungal and infectious dermatological conditions, clinicopathological study on skin tumors, genetic skin diseases, and dermatologic surgery. These specializations are further supported by disease-centered medical teams including the onychosis team, hr disease team, rare disease group among others.

The Department is well-equipped with four Ph.D.M.D. supervisors and ten master supervisors fostering a nurturing environment for research, education, and talent trning. Clinical instructors here have extensive experience in various dermatological procedures, which ensures high-quality healthcare delivery.

In medical cosmetology and cosmetics, the sub-specialty conducts profound research on skin aging and disfiguring diseases while playing an influential role in the clinical safety and efficacy evaluation of cosmetic products. This team has established China's first-ever Skin Biology Engineering Laboratory and Cosmetic Engineering Technology Research Center.

The skin-associated immune disease group focuses on allergy studies, inflammatory skin disorders, psoriasis, autoimmune bullous diseases, and autoimmune connective tissue diseases. They have developed a series of advancedusing flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry to name a few.

Fungal and infectious skin disease sub-specialty brings to the world's first case on infantile hemangioma treated by itraconazole. The team has created an evidence-based dermatoscopy-centered platform for dermatology education, research, treatment of fungal, bacterial, viral infectious skin diseases.

In clinicopathological study of skin tumors, our team conducts direct immunofluorescence diagnosis of bullous diseases across the entire province and provides comprehensive research on the pathogenesis and early diagnosis of skin lymphoproliferative disorders.

The genetic skin disease team reports groundbreaking findings in China related to SLC39A4 mutations causing acrodermatitis enteropathica, DOCK8 mutations associated with autosomal recessive hyper-IgE syndrome, NIPAL4 mutation leading to non-bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma, and DSG1 mutation resulting in non-epidermolytic palmoplantar keratoderma.

The dermatologic surgery team offers advanced medical procedures such as over 300 nl operations every year, more than 150 hr transplant operations yearly. This department's proficiency in detl suture technique, hr transplantation, and nl surgeries is recognized nation-wide.

Our Department continues to innovate, contribute to the global dermatological community through our participation in major conferences like the World Congress of Dermatology and International Society for Dermatologic and Aesthetic Surgery, presenting advancements in dermatology.
