Department of Dermatology Venerology at West China Hospital, Sichuan University
Founded in the early 1950s and boasting over six decades of history, the Department of Dermatology Venerology has become a regional authority for diagnosing and treating complex dermatological diseases across Western China. Recognized as a National Health Commission's state clinical key specialty, this department holds significant importance for education, research, practice, talent development, and is one of the foremost bases in southwestern China.
Our Team
The Department proudly consists of 33 specialists, including seven senior doctors, seven professors, and seven associate professors. It also serves as a deputy chr organization within Chinese Dermatologists Venerologists Society of Chinese Medical Doctor Association with several members occupying key positions like vice-chrmen, standing committee members, etc.
Academic Leadership
The Department boasts four Ph.D.M.D. tutors and ten master's supervisors, offering expertise across six sub-specialties: medical cosmetology cosmetics, skin-associated immune diseases, fungal infectious dermatological illnesses, clinicopathological study of skin tumors, genetic skin disorders, and dermatologic surgery.
Innovative Research
Notable research platforms include the establishment of China's first-ever Skin Biology Engineering Laboratory and Cosmetic Engineering Technology Research Center. The department has also created advanced cell, , and animalalong with molecular biological technology platforms for flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, etc.
State-of-the-Art Facilities
The department is equipped with multiple disease-centered medical teams dedicated to onychosis, hr disorders, and rare diseases. It houses a group of experienced clinical instructors who annually guide about 20 candidates for Ph.D. or master's degrees.
Cutting Edge in Dermatology
Medical Cosmetology Cosmetics: The sub-specialty significantly contributes to skin aging and disfiguring disease pathogenesis research, diagnosis, evaluation, safety, and efficacy of cosmetic clinical trials, and treatment of cosmetics-induced skin diseases.
Skin-Associated Immune Diseases: Research focuses on allergic dermatitis, inflammatory skin conditions, psoriasis, autoimmune bullous diseases, and autoimmune connective tissue disorders. The department has established advanced diagnostic techniques for flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, PCR, Western blotting, and more.
Fungal Infectious Skin Diseases: Innovations include the global first successful infantile hemangioma treatment with itraconazole. It also includes a evidence-based dermatoscopy-centered platform for diagnosing fungal, bacterial, and viral skin infections through education, research, and innovation.
Clinicopathological Study of Skin Tumors: The team conducts direct immunofluorescence diagnostic services across the entire province and performs in-depth studies on skin lymphoproliferative diseases' molecular biology to d early diagnosis.
Genetic Skin Diseases: Recognized for its contributions, the department first reported SLC39A4 mutations in acrodermatitis enteropathica cases, DOCK8 mutations causing Autosomal Recessive Hyper-IgE Syndrome, and NIPAL4 mutation associated with non-bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma.
Dermatologic Surgery: Specializes in extensive procedures including over 10,000 surgeries annually - more than 3,000 detl sutures, around 300 nl operations, and over 150 hr transplant surgeries. The department leads the field in detl suture technique, hr transplantation, nl surgery, and nl disease management.

The Department regularly delivers presentations at international conferences like World Congress of Dermatology, International Society for Dermatologic Aesthetic Surgery, Chinese Society of Dermatology Annual Meetings, and China Dermatologists Association Annual Meetings.
