Established in the early 1950s and boasting over six decades of experience, our Department of Dermatology Venerology stands as a pioneering center for diagnosing and treating complex skin diseases in Western China. It is recognized as a national key specialty under construction by the National Health Commission, serving as a crucial hub for clinical practice, research, education, talent trning, and innovation in southwestern China.
With a dedicated team of 33 medical professionals including seven senior experts, seven professors, and seven associate professors, our department holds a significant role within Chinese Dermatology Venerology Society of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. Many are also prominent figures serving leadership positions like vice chrmen, standing committee members, or group leaders.
This esteemed department comprises six specialized sub-disciplines: medical cosmetology cosmetics, skin-associated immune diseases, fungal and infectious dermatological diseases, clinicopathological study of skin tumors, genetic skin diseases, and dermatologic surgery. We operate a diverse set of disease-focused teams including the onychosis team, hr disease team, and rare disease group. Our teaching practices have produced seasoned instructors with an average annual output of about 20 Ph.D. or master candidates.
Medical Cosmetology Cosmetics
Our sub-specialty has pioneered in understanding skin aging and disfiguring diseases' etiology, diagnosis, and evaluation, with expertise in cosmetic safety and efficacy assessment for skin disorders caused by cosmetics. We were the pioneers and sole institution in China to establish a Skin Biology Engineering Laboratory and Cosmetic Engineering Technology Research Center.
Skin-Associated Immune Diseases
Focused on allergy, inflammatory skin conditions, psoriasis, autoimmune bullous diseases, and autoimmune connective tissue diseases research, we have developed advanced cell, , and animal, as well as state-of-the-art molecular biological technologies including flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry.
Fungal Infectious Skin Diseases
Innovative treatment strategies for fungal infections were introduced through the first reported case of infantile hemangioma treated with itraconazole. We have established a new evidence-based dermatoscopy-centered platform for treating skin diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, and viruses. Research papers in prestigious journals such as Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology JAAD and British Journal of Dermatology BJD, with several cover images, highlight our expertise.
Clinicopathological Study of Skin Tumors
As part of China’s Society of Dermatology's pathology unit leadership, we provide comprehensive diagnostics including direct immunofluorescence for skin bullous diseases throughout Sichuan province. Our clinicopathological study exts to skin lymphoproliferative disorders and molecular biology research into their pathogenesis and early detection.
Genetic Skin Diseases
Our genodermatosis sub-specialty group was the first in China to report mutations in SLC39A4 causing acrodermatitis enteropathica, cases of autosomal recessive hyper-IgE syndrome with DOCK8 mutations, NIPAL4 mutation leading to non-bullous congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma, and DSG1 mutation resulting in non-epidermolytic palmoplantar keratoderma.
Dermatologic Surgery
Our sub-specialty performs more than 10,000 surgical procedures yearly, including over 3,000 detl suture techniques, about 300 nl surgeries and over 150 hr transplant operations. We excel in detl sutures, hr transplantation, nl surgery, and nl disease management globally. Our team has presented at major international forums such as the World Congress of Dermatology, International Society for Dermatologic Aesthetic Surgery, Chinese Society of Dermatology Annual Meeting, and China Dermatologist Association Annual Meeting.
