Medical Services at West China Hospital, Sichuan University
The Department of Dermatology Venerology, founded in the early 1950s and boasting over six decades of history, is recognized as a regional hub for standardized diagnosis and treatment of complex dermatological diseases in Western China. This department holds the distinction of being a state clinical key specialty under construction by the National Health Commission and serves as one of the most influential centers for clinical practice, research, education, and talent development in southwestern China.
Expertise and Recognition
Headed by an esteemed team comprising 33 professionals including seven senior experts, seven professors, and seven associate professors, this department is the deputy chr organization of both the Chinese Dermatologist Venerologist Society within the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. Numerous members hold leadership roles as vice-chrmen, committee members, and leaders in national societies for dermatology.
Affiliations
The department boasts a robust academic framework with four Ph.D.M.D. supervisors and ten master's instructors. It specializes in six key areas: medical cosmetology cosmetic science, skin-associated immune diseases, fungal infectious dermatological conditions, clinicopathological studies on skin tumors, genetic skin diseases, and dermatologic surgery.
Research Excellence
Notable research centers have been established, including the first Chinese engineering laboratory for skin biology and cosmetic technology research. The team has contributed significantly to advancements in molecular biological technologies such as flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, real-time PCR analysis, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, among others.
Sub-specialties
The sub-specialty on fungal and infectious dermatological diseases pioneered a groundbreaking approach by utilizing itraconazole for infantile hemangioma treatment, establishing a novel method of treating vascular hyperplasia. A robust evidence-based dermatoscopy-centered platform addressing the diagnosis and management of fungal, bacterial, viral infections alongside education and research innovations has been formulated.
Global Acknowledgment
The department's sub-specialties such as medical cosmetology cosmetics, skin-associated immune diseases, fungal infectious dermatological conditions, clinicopathological study on skin tumors, genetic skin diseases, and dermatologic surgery are globally acclmed for their expertise.
