Use of Roller Microneedles Combined with Tranexamic Acid Solution in Treating Melasma

Abstract:

This study presents a detled protocol for treating melasma using roller microneedle techniques combined with tranexamic acid solution, followed by an evaluation of its efficacy.

Introduction:

Melasma is a skin condition characterized by the appearance of brown or grayish patches on sun-exposed areas. The treatment often involves various pharmaceutical therapies and cosmetic procedures. Roller microneedles offer a minimally invasive method for delivering active ingredients to the targeted area while stimulating collagen production, making it an attractive option in treating melasma.

:

  1. Preparation of Tranexamic Acid Solution: Tranexamic acid is an antifibrinolytic agent used in dermatological treatments to inhibit melanin synthesis and reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Prepare a solution by dissolving tranexamic acid 100mg in sterile water or saline 1ml, ensuring complete dissolution for optimal efficacy.

  2. Setting Up the Roller Microneedle Device: Select a roller microneedle device with appropriate needle size and density suitable for derma therapy based on the patient's skin type and melasma severity. Sterilize the device following manufacturer guidelines to prevent infection.

  3. Pre-Treatment Assessment: Conduct a thorough assessment of the patient’s skin condition, including the area affected by melasma, skin tone, history of sun exposure, and any contrndications for tranexamic acid therapy.

  4. Application Procedure:

a Cleanse the affected skin using mild soap and water to remove oils and debris.

b After cleaning, gently pat dry the skin with a sterile gauze or towel.

c Administer the tranexamic acid solution onto the clean, dry skin area targeted for treatment.

  5. Microneedling Application:

a Apply the roller microneedle to the treated area and move it in circular motions at different angles typically 90° rotations. Ensure gentle but firm pressure to create micro-injuries without causing visible bleeding.

b should cover the entire affected region for about 2-5 minutes, deping on skin sensitivity.

  6. Post-Treatment Care:

a After removing the roller microneedle device, apply a non-comedogenic moisturizer and sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 to protect agnst further sun damage.

b Instruct patients to avoid exposure to direct sunlight immediately after treatment and throughout their course of therapy.

  7. Follow-Up Schedule: Plan weekly or bi-weekly sessions for optimal results, deping on the severity of melasma and patient’s response. Monitor skin reactions post-treatment to ensure safety and efficacy.

  8. Efficacy Evaluation:

a Assess the efficacy using visual assessment by dermatologists before treatment and during follow-up visits.

b Use standardized scales like Melasma Area and Severity Index MASI, which quantifies changes in melanin concentration over time.

:

This protocol outlines a minimally invasive approach to treating melasma utilizing roller microneedles with tranexamic acid solution, emphasizing the importance of careful preparation, procedure execution, post-treatment care, follow-up evaluation, and safety considerations.
