Protocol for Treating Melasma Using Tranexamic Acid Solution and Roller Microneedles

Abstract:

This protocol detls the employed in treating melasma with a roller microneedle system combined with tranexamic acid solution. The study evaluate the efficacy of this treatment approach, highlighting its potential as an effective alternative or supplementary method for managing this common skin disorder.

Materials:

  1. Tranexamic Acid Solution: A non-greasy liquid formulation that is well-absorbed by skin.

  2. Roller Microneedle System: Consisting of a handle and interchangeable needle cartridges with varying depths 0.5mm, 1mm.

  3. Sterile Gloves

  4. Alcohol Swabs

  5. Disinfected Treatment Room

Procedure:

Step One: Pre-Treatment Assessment - Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the patient's skin condition including the severity of melasma, Fitzpatrick Skin Type classification, and contrndications such as active skin infections or recent solar exposure.

Step Two: Preparation for Treatment:

  1. Sterilize hands using gloves.

  2. Cleanse the treatment area with alcohol swabs to remove any oils or bacteria. Allow it to dry completely before proceeding.

Step Three: Tranexamic Acid Application - Apply a thin layer of tranexamic acid solution over the affected areas following proper skin compatibility testing and instructions from manufacturer guidelines.

Step Four: Microneedling Procedure:

  1. Choose appropriate needle depth based on the patient's skin type typically 0.5mm for sensitive skin.

  2. Gently roll the microneedle cartridge across the treatment area, using gentle but firm pressure in all directions to ensure coverage.

  3. Repeat rolling motions as required per manufacturer recommations.

Step Five: Post-Treatment Care:

  1. Allow sufficient time for the solution to be absorbed into the dermis.

  2. Cleanse the skin agn with alcohol swabs once the microneedling is completed.

  3. Apply a soothing after-treatment product recommed by dermatologists to help in minimizing redness or discomfort.

Step Six: Efficacy Evaluation - Monitor skin response throughout treatment sessions and evaluate efficacy based on melasma severity scales such as the Melasma Area and Severity Index MASI.

Safety and Aftercare:

  1. Advise patients to sunlight, use sunscreens with high SPF protection during treatment.

  2. Monitor for potential side effects like erythema, edema, or hyperpigmentation which may require adjustments in treatment protocol.

:

This protocol outlines a comprehensive approach using tranexamic acid solution and roller microneedling as an effective strategy agnst melasma. It provides a step-by-step guide that could serve as a basis for future clinical trials or personalized dermatological treatments targeting this common skin condition.
