Overview of the Dermatology Department at Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine

The Dermatology Department, established in 1956 under the visionary leadership of Zhao Bingnan, a renowned specialist in dermasurgery of traditional Chinese medicine, is recognized as a national key clinical specialty. It was among the first batch of designated specialties and disciplines by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been pivotal to the development of Beijing's Special Diagnosis and Treatment Center for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine. This department further serves as an esteemed hub for advanced education offering trning programs at both Master's and Doctoral levels.

With a current faculty consisting of 37 medical professionals, including two National Famous Practitioners of Chinese medicine and one in Beijing, the department boasts an impressive cadre with over 26 leading figures among its ranks. All are equipped with master’s degrees or higher academic qualifications. Currently accommodating 33 ward beds, it processes nearly half a million outpatient visits annually.

The department is renowned for its vast array of unique traditional Chinese medicine preparations and innovative characteristic treatments that number more than 60 and 20 kinds respectively. It prides itself on integrating heritage with innovation in medical practice, focusing on upholding the distinctiveness of traditional Chinese medicine while continuously enhancing medical quality and therapeutic effectiveness.

The department's specialized and advantageous treatment modalities excel particularly in psoriasis, eczema, herpes zoster, acne, erythroderma, lupus erythematosus, bullous diseases, urticaria, vitiligo, and other skin conditions.
