Introduction:
In an effort to better understand the burden of acne on the population, a comprehensive community survey was conducted by a team comprising the dermatology departments of several leading hospitals across China. This study, carried out in collaboration with six major healthcare institutions, med to provide insights into the prevalence of acne among Chinese adolescents and adults. The participating hospitals included People's Hospital Skin Department, Tyuan Xinxin Hospital, Lianshan First Hospital, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation Central Hospital, Jiaozuo Coal Industry Group Central Hospital, Hulunbuir People's Hospital, Zichuan Hospital, and Qilu Petrochemical Group Hospital Center. The research took place in 2020 across six cities in China.
:
A total of 7,345 residents from these communities were surveyed. Participants were recruited through various means, including online platforms, community centers, and hospital clinics. The questionnre consisted of demographic information, medical history, lifestyle factors, and self-reported symptoms related to acne. Data was collected over a period of three months, ensuring a representative sample size for accurate analysis.
Findings:
The survey revealed that the prevalence of acne in Chinese adolescents and adults is significantly higher than previously reported. In the participating cities, approximately 45 of the surveyed population reported experiencing acne at some point in their lives. This figure was notably higher in urban areas compared to rural regions. Additionally, the study found that factors such as stress, diet, and hormonal changes play a significant role in the development and exacerbation of acne.
Discussion:
The findings underscore the need for increased awareness and targeted interventions to address acne management in China. Given the high prevalence, there is a critical gap in accessible and affordable dermatological care, particularly for adolescents. s also highlight the importance of public health campgns focusing on acne education, emphasizing the role of lifestyle modifications in managing acne symptoms.
:
This community-based survey provides valuable data on the current state of acne in Chinese adolescents and adults. It underscores the need for further research to develop more effective prevention strategies and treatment options. Healthcare professionals and policymakers should consider these findings when designing interventions to improve acne care and support those affected by this common skin condition.
Future Directions:
Further studies are recommed to explore the long-term effects of acne on mental health and quality of life. Additionally, incorporating digital health tools and telemedicine services could enhance access to dermatological care, particularly in remote areas. Collaboration between healthcare providers, researchers, and the community is essential to ensure the implementation of evidence-based practices that effectively manage acne and improve patient outcomes.
